We were responsible for the construction of a brand-new ice water building for our client Friesland Campina in Lummen. The purpose of the building is to significantly reduce the factory's climate footprint by switching to a new ice water system. Our contribution to the construction was the complete closed shell. We laid the foundations and then installed the entire steel structure and prefab concrete elements. Once this phase was complete, we took care of the brickwork and laid all the floors. We also carried out the exterior landscaping in the form of an attractive concrete driveway to ensure easy access for lorries.
After installing the doors and gates, it was time to install a complete secondary steel structure on the roof. Large cooling units were later installed on this steel structure, so it had to be strong enough to support them. Grates were also installed between all the cooling units so that technicians could easily perform maintenance on these essential components later on.
A few technical facts at a glance:
- 300 m³ of poured concrete
- 850 m² of insulated concrete panels
- 500 m² of prestressed hollow core slabs
- 46 tonnes of primary steel structures
- 3,2-tonne overhead crane
